Great Public Spaces

Great Public Spaces is activating Calgary’s public realm and reclaiming lost places. Come share your knowledge, experience or interests, pitch your ideas and work on projects together with others who are passionate about great place-making.

Spawned of the CivicCamp Calgary collective – this self-organizing, volunteer-propelled group is ultimately an opportunity where anyone’s ideas can activate the membership. We want to make great things happen in our public spaces through program, projects, policy or performance.

All Calgarians are welcome to join this group. The prerequisite is a desire to make our city a better place to live and work. That’s everybody, right?

GPS also has a PBWorks page for our documents, links and other data.  Take a look here.

Bow to Bluff – An initiative of the Great Public Spaces group

Bow to Bluff is a citizen-based initiative to collaboratively create great public space in the corridor that runs along the Sunnyside LRT line from Memorial Drive to McHugh Bluff.  Bow to Bluff invites all stakeholders – City and citizen – to participate in an innovative engagement process and placemaking activities to re-imagine the corridor.  Bow to Bluff recently received a grant from the City of Calgary Council Innovation Fund to hire a professional team to run a month-long “storefront engagement” process in the old Ant Hill building in Kensington.

Visit the Bow to Bluff Facebook page here.  To contact the group about this project, email bow2bluffyyc (at) gmail (dot) com.  Follow them on twitter at @Bow2BluffYYC
